FDA Ban on Kids' Drugs Leaves Moms without a Solution, New Release from European Company May be the Answer
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 28, 2007 -- An FDA panel of advisors recommended a ban on hundreds of over-the-counter cough and cold products for children under the age of 6 because they have not been proven to work and may be dangerous.
It can be rough on moms when kids -- who have an average of 6-10 colds a year -- get sick, especially when they have sinusitis. "It is very difficult when your child is sick and uncomfortable. Our son used to have a severe case of sinusitis. It made it very hard for him to play outdoors or enjoy the life kids are supposed to have," says Scott Bukow, President of Bionorica USA, a company whose products are clinically tested and approved by European Health Authorities as natural medicines.
Mothers want something that is tested to work and is safe:
The U.S. FDA approved children's cough and cold medicines three decades ago when it was assumed that smaller dosages would be helpful for children. However, Federal health advisors recently reversed that view and stated that medicines used to treat children's coughs and colds don't work and are dangerous.
Mr. Bukow has seen Sinupret for Kids help many children. "The U.S. wants integrative medicine. Mothers want something that is tested to work and is safe. We have that option and have brought to the U.S. a product that has been tested with over 3,000 children in just one of their scientific studies."
Science for safe and effective health products:
Bionorica has used pharmaceutical technology to develop, grow and process very specific plants for healing and safety. Bionorica believes that their innovative science of nature is an opportunity for integrative medicine to become as well known in the U.S. as it is in Europe. "Doctors and moms have something that can be put to the test in all areas of safety and efficacy," Mr. Bukow explained.
It was at the recommendation of pediatricians, and in particular, Dr Joshua Sharfstein, Baltimore's Commissioner of Health, that the FDA conducted its review of the drugs. Dr. Sharfstein's petition followed the death of several children in the Baltimore area due to cough and cold medicines. The Petition referred to a study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that found that more than 1,500 children under the age of 2 had suffered serious health problems between 2004 and 2005 after being treated with common cough and cold medicines.
"We applaud the pediatricians for delving into this matter. Now we hope they will give us the chance to show them what we can do for their patients," said Mr. Bukow.
Mom's are afraid of over-medicating: In preparation for the U.S. release of their natural sinus and immune support product, "Sinupret for Kids," Bionorica conducted surveys on mothers of small children. "Moms are afraid of over-medicating their kids and worried about giving them too many antibiotics," Mr. Bukow explained. "Bionorica is a 70-year old company that researches safe and effective medicinal plants which are then grown from pure seed, a process called 'Phytolution.' 'Phyto' means 'plant.' Phytolution is a natural, safe and effective solution. And we hope that it will be part of a positive evolution in today's healthcare."
Help for u.s. moms and kids: Parents want help when their children are sick, and more often than not are coming to the doctor in frustration. Solutions from our European friends can provide the help they are looking for.
